Quiltmakers Help Healing ~

Looking for a way to give back to someone in need?   Oh, how we love you, Nancy Zieman for hosting the originator of Pretty Pockets.  Congratulations, Maryanne Arthur for sharing your idea.  Blessings to you that you are now cancer free.

Pretty Pockets ~ a spark of joy to help healing

Pretty Pockets..........a perfect solution to put a smile on a face and ease the tug of drain tubes and bulbs on the body after surgery.

A video from Nancy's Corner sharing the story of Pretty Pockets by Maryanne Arthur.

Creative Blossoms says it beautifully and provides the template to make a Pretty Pocket for yourself or a loved one.  Or, to quote "from a homemade gift to a worldwide giving project to share a small role...."

Together, we will make a difference.

Angela's "Shattered Frames" Stashbusting Strip Quilt | Midnight Quilt Sh...

Holy Scrap! Grab Angela's FREE pattern and quilting diagram to bust your stash.

Watch on the big screen and enjoy the midnight quilter....Angela Walters.  What a hoot ~  She makes me want to bust some stash NOW!

Follow Me to "Sew Katie Did"

Yes, I've been stalking Katie Pedersen for a number of years....first seeing her quilts at QuiltCon 2013, then 2015 and 2017....well, you get the picture.   She's a quilter who bases herself firmly on tradition with a wonderful fresh and modern twist.  It's worthy of taking note of her use of  fabric, color and value.   Thus, here are a few of my favorite Sew Katie Did tutorials from her blog ~

Dated July 8, 2016 is Katie's Heart Strings quilt  ~ a  block tutorial.  It's a simple string quilt....with a valuable lesson in the use of color and value.  Yes, the layout is special too.    Be still, my heart.

And her "Quilting With Magic Numbers" tutorial   done in August, 2011, is  a must try if you are wanting to do some serious random scrap-busting.

And the same magic numbers technique in a more contemporary setting.

Katie says that most of us have a fabric stash extraordinaire and the value quilt is a fabulous use of all.   Katie couldn't have said it any better while describing her Value Quilts tutorial going back to March, 2009!

She says "No worries on making fabrics match,
we’re going to think in values, or the degree of lightness or darkness of a color."
Katie goes on to say that value is more important than color.....you'll just have to go there to benefit from her experience in working with value.

It was so nice visiting Katie Pedersen via her blog....learning about color and the value of,
 along the way.
Hope you enjoy the visit too.

If you love it, raise your hand ~

To music:

If  you love it and you want it, raise your hand.
If you love it and you want it, raise your hand.
If you love it and you want it and can't help that you covet.
If you love it and you want it, raise your hand.

An Orange Dot quilt pattern - this one made by Marty Mason

Okay, I felt the same way when I saw this adorable string happy pattern at Orange Dot Quilts.   Orange Dot calls this one Beads On A String.  Since I'm in the scrap busting mood, this pattern just fit the bill to help me out.   Except I didn't use the pattern! Different size strips were foundation paper pieced on Office Depot end of roll paper purchased for pennies.  The ream comes in 500 sheets of  8 1/2" x 11".  So, after all 15 sheets were covered with my fabric strips and trimmed down to size, I cut the 1 1/2" strip off each one for my strings to hold all the beads together.  Get it?  So fun to make do and use what's on hand.

Foundation Paper Pieced Beads - a work in progress

Both the front and the pieced back  makes me raise my hand.....while singing a happy tune.

And it all started with strings from the scrap pile.

Stay tuned to this channel.  There'll be more scrap quilts
to love coming soon.  The call has been put out to send me a picture of your favorite scrap
quilt and how it was constructed.
An email to martymason@bellsouth.net will get your scrap quilt spotlighted.

2017 Festival at Cottonport, Louisiana

I'll just let this poster speak for itself.  But to paraphrase it a bit, come join the fun between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, September 30th.   It's a first!  The Cotton Quilters' Guild is having a festival:  A Quilt Show, Art Show, Vendor and Craft Booths and of course,  Food.

It took me a few minutes to find Cottonport on the Louisiana map, but persistence paid off.  It's a little bit North of Opelousas, South of Alexandria, East of I-49 and West of the Mississippi River....which puts it about dead center of the state.   Highways 362, 107 and 29 will get you there, but it does seem that the most direct route would be from I-49.  Exit East toward Bunkie onto State Hwy 115 which will become Hwy 29.   Go through Evergreen then continue on 29 straight into Cottonport.  Just to be on the safe side and to get you there in time to 'pass a good time',  you may want to google map it yourself!

Hope to see you there.

Well, of course, there's so much more to enjoy while there....for instance, open up the link to her
